Genesys Works is a national social enterprise sparking sustainable futures for high school students in underserved communities. By providing rising seniors skills training, meaningful work experiences, and connections to professional networks, we are helping young adults onto a path to economic self-sufficiency and a lifetime of career success. Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the National Chief Operating Officer and working collaboratively with the entire National Office of Genesys Works, the Executive Director has overall strategic and operational responsibility for implementing the Genesys Works business model in the National Capital Region (GW NCR). Specifically, the Executive Director is responsible for driving internship sales with corporate clients; establishing relationships with corporate partners and donors to generate revenue to grow and sustain the local operations; growing and executing the program model; and developing, coaching, and managing the local staff. This is an exciting opportunity with a lot of growth potential for a dynamic leader. Successful candidates will demonstrate the following competencies:

Strategic Vision and Leadership

  • Create a bold and compelling vision and strategy for the organization while building a positive, inclusive work environment that attracts, inspires, and retains staff
  • Build and manage a diverse and inclusive Advisory Board representative of the community, that is highly engaged and willing to leverage and secure resources
  • Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the National Office, ensuring open communication of financial, program, and community impact performance against agreed milestones and goals
  • Oversee the staff and activities of all of the business functions of GW NCR, which currently includes 5 staff members and approximately 80 students per year
  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain GW NCR’s high-performing team

 

Sales and Resource Development

  • Develop relationships with executives and decision-makers at Fortune 500 companies to secure paid internships for students, and grow existing partnerships year-over-year
  • Grow the organization’s sustainable business model by increasing both annual giving and long-term capital funding
  • Be the primary face of GW NCR to the market, advocating for the students served in the community
  • Develop relationships with senior leaders at community partners including peer organizations and local school leaders to drive the overall success of GW in the NCR market

 

Collaboration with National Office

  • Ensure that GW NCR complies with and effectively leverages the National office across all functional areas including program execution; finance, planning, and accounting; corporate partnerships; philanthropic development; human resources; marketing and communications; and legal and compliance.

Qualified candidates will possess:

  • Belief that all people are capable of reaching their full potential and passionate about helping young people get there through meaningful professional work experience
  • Strong corporate sales and/or fundraising experience, ideally in a social enterprise, with the ability to effectively engage a wide range of stakeholders and generate resources in both earned income (internship sales) and contributed income
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors/Advisory Board with the ability to cultivate existing and new board member relationships
  • Confident, influential, and persuasive communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to effectively represent GW at public speaking events and within the DC area philanthropic and corporate community
  • Demonstrated strength in matching vision with execution; you have experience thinking strategically as well as demonstrated success executing with strong attention to detail; you gauge your success in measurable impact and know how to ruthlessly prioritize
  • Ability to create inclusive team environments that foster trust, and you know how to enable other leaders to do the same
  • Demonstrated commitment to and lived experience around issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Track record of effectively leading and scaling a performance and outcomes-based organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop/change culture of high-performing teams; set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning and execution; experience managing a P+L at a corporation or social enterprise strongly preferred
  • Proven self-starter who operates with passion, integrity, positivity, and a mission-driven approach
  • BA degree, advanced degree preferred, with 7-10 years of senior management experience in either the private sector or not-for-profit space or both (preferable); Legally authorized to work in the United States
