Mission
Genesys Works’ mission is to provide pathways to career success for high school students in underserved communities through skills training, meaningful work experiences, and impactful relationships. To help ensure that Houston’s youth are connected to professional opportunities, the VISTA Volunteer Coordinator will build the capacity of our organization by creating and implementing a volunteer program

By September 2020, assess the current state of Genesys Works’ volunteer opportunities, recruitment efforts, tracking methods, and communication plans, and create new procedures to improve, or in some cases create, all four.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research the history of volunteering efforts for Genesys Works for the past 3 years
  • Identify strengths and challenges of the current recruitment efforts and tracking methods
  • Make a plan for how to improve and/or create new volunteer recruitment plans, volunteer communication methods , and volunteer tracking systems
  • Create a volunteer calendar to assess activities at Genesys Works where volunteers may be needed
  • Research and identify new volunteer events for Genesys Works
  • Create the timeline for volunteer events identified
  • Communicate with volunteers, as needed throughout the year, to maintain engagement

May create volunteer tools or information resources, as needed

VISTA Assignment: Key Objectives
 

  • Identifies new volunteer opportunities and/or events to host for Genesys Works stakeholders and alumni of our program
  • In tandem with our marketing and development team, this person will help organize and carry out the volunteer opportunities they identify
  • Tracks volunteer opportunities/events created and volunteer attendance
  • Helps create surveys, or other methods of evaluation, to measure success of events. Using this information, this person will submit findings to our team and make suggestions for the continuation of events
  • Creates a volunteer calendar for the year to assess activities at Genesys Works where volunteers may be needed
  • Communicates with vendors, stakeholders, and others during the event planning process to ensure event timeline is followed
  • Evaluates past GW volunteer events to develop ideas for growth
  • Communicates with volunteers, as needed throughout the year, to maintain engagement
  • May create volunteer tools or information resources as needed
Preferred Skills & Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree or 2-3 years of Volunteer Coordination and or/Volunteer Management Experience
  • Experience with organizing volunteer events and activities
  • Experience in volunteer recruitment and engagement
  • Ability to assess performance of volunteer efforts by tracking goal metrics
  • Ability to identify and implement new volunteer opportunities
  • Strong communication skills- as this position will require that you speak with various GW stakeholders, corporate partners, community members, and vendors
  • Strong management skills, as this person will be working on multiple projects at a time
  • Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot when necessary
  • Salesforce experience preferred
