Preparing Students for Postsecondary Success
At Genesys Works, we believe that succeeding in school is just as important as developing workforce-ready skills. We work hand-in-hand with our school champions to ensure students are on track to graduate from high school, and that college is within reach for them.
Curie Metropolitan High School has been an active school partner since Genesys Works began operations in Chicago. With 53 students participating in Genesys Works since 2010, it is the combined effort of principals, teachers and counselors that makes Genesys Works possible. Upon graduation, every GW student leaves high school with a plan for post-secondary success.
Sherry King, Department Chair at Curie High School, has been supporting Genesys Works students for eight years. “I often wonder if students know what we’re talking about when we say they need ‘real-world’ experience,” says King. “Those who complete Genesys Works understand what it means to be a part of a community of professionals.”
“What I like most about Genesys Works is that they put the students first,” says King. “As the program evolves, they remain committed to providing once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for students.”
King sees the transformation in her students every year. “Students are different when they return to school in the fall,” says King of those who go through the eight weeks of summer skills training. “They are more mature and carry themselves differently. They are proud to be part of Genesys Works.”
