Hispanic Heritage Month begins on Sunday, September 15 and ends October 15 each year. This month celebrates the history, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic individuals to our society. In commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month, several events throughout the city of Houston will be taking place in the next couple of weeks:

Donkey Piñata Craft
Host: South Houston Branch Library
When: September 19, 2019, 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Where: South Houston Branch Library, 607 Avenue A, Houston, TX 77587
Event Description: Children ages 5 and up and are invited to decorate a miniature piñata craft with tissue paper and fill it with candy.

Make Your Own Corn Husk Doll
Host: Aldine Branch Library

Event Description: Make your own Corn Husk Doll with us! Celebrate Hispanic Heritage month by creating a traditional children’s toy. Decorate and style your doll to your choosing!

Nouveau Flamenco Spanish Guitar Performance

Event Description: Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at George Memorial Library, with John Acevedo. Library patrons will be treated to complimentary traditional Flamenco guitar music.

Houston Aztec Dance & Drum presents Mi’totiliztli Workshop

Event Description: Houston Aztec Dance & Drum members will present “Mi’totiliztli”, Aztec cultural dances and drumming of the Mexican Tradition known as “Danza”. Danza Azteca/Mexica is a beautiful tradition with roots deeply embedded in ancient Mexico.

40th Annual Festival Chicano
Host: Miller Outdoor Theatre

Event Description: The 40th annual Festival Chicano is a reflection of the artistic creativity and has developed in the Chicano cultural experience after centuries of influence of native peoples, Mexico, Europeans, and the United States of America. Festival Chicano will be held From October 3-5 beginning at 7:00 p.m. each night.

Event Description:  In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. You’ll learn about Huichol Yarn Art and make your own art. Nierikas (pronounced Near-eeka) are traditional yarn paintings made by the Huichol people.

Macy’s Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month With Jesse & Joy
