HOUSTON, October 13, 2017 — Genesys Works is celebrating 15 years of transforming the lives of high school students from underserved communities. In this time, the organization has expanded to five program locations in eight cities across the country and impacted nearly 6,000 disadvantaged youth. This milestone year will be commemorated with a 15th Anniversary Celebration Dinner at the Hilton Americas Hotel in Houston, Texas, on October 17, 2017.

Genesys Works (then Genesys ITS) began in 2002 when founder Rafael Alvarez created a social enterprise with the mission to train seniors from low-income public high schools in the essential technical and professional skills required to get a job in a corporate environment. His vision became reality when Genesys Works started with 10 students and one corporate partner in its first year.
Fifteen years later, Genesys Works has grown to become a national organization, which has partnered with 322 businesses and 294 schools during this time. The five program sites (Houston, Chicago, Minneapolis/St.Paul, the San Francisco-Bay Area, and Washington’s National Capital Region), serve 3,000 students annually.

With its strong mission and new growth strategy, Genesys Works expects to expand rapidly in the years to come. This success was made possible because of the corporate, school and philanthropic partners, as well as the individual contributors who have worked closely with Genesys Works over its short history. Genesys Works recognizes the impact these relationships have had on closing our nation’s opportunity gap, and appreciates the supporters who have contributed to the success over the last 15 years.

During the “15 for 15” series launching on October 24, Genesys Works will highlight a student from each class year, sharing the stories of these exceptional individuals – the adversity they overcame to change their life trajectory, the college and career paths they chose, and most importantly, where they are today.
