Apply your computer knowledge and mentoring ability to help change the trajectory of young people’s lives.

Genesys Works is a nonprofit organization that trains and employs high school seniors to perform professional IT services for major corporations. Our mission is to enable economically-disadvantaged students to enter the economic mainstream by providing them the knowledge and work experience required to succeed.

As one of our summer IT instructors, you will be instrumental in jump-starting the professional careers of eager high school seniors who will be working at our client companies providing IT support and outstanding customer service. You will become the mentor they will never forget; the person who teaches them that the corporate world is indeed for them! Over 95% of our graduates go on to college as a result of the Genesys Works program and the people like you who make it happen.

During an eight-week summer skills training program, instructors teach entry-level computer and technology skills to two groups (morning and afternoon classes consisting of 20-25 students each). For our students, being a successful professional involves more than IT skills alone. IT instructors work alongside other staff members to teach students important professional skills lessons covering topics such as effective communication, reliability, corporate culture, and email etiquette. We encourage “real-life teaching” so that when students finish the Genesys Works training program, they are truly prepared to succeed in their jobs.  Bring your previous professional experience to our students and make a difference in their lives forever.

We seek up to seven instructors who can lead, manage, motivate, and mentor our student interns. Our instructors create positive, life-altering changes in our students by providing valuable life skills and caring guidance. Instructors will teach in either our downtown Saint Paul or Minneapolis offices.

Qualifications:

We seek candidates who believe deeply in our organization’s mission, who thrive in an entrepreneurial and dynamic environment, and who demonstrate a previous record of achievement.

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • College degree (or currently pursuing a college degree), preferably in a computer-related field of study
  • Experience teaching computer skills or working as an IT professional
  • Knowledge in any of the following subject areas: laptop hardware, operating systems, network configuration, information security, or project management
  • Strong presence and leadership in a classroom
  • Heart, humor and a commitment to our youth development mission
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to relate to and work with diverse populations

The employment term runs from June 3 until July 31. Training begins on June 15.
