From Interns to Innovators: Bringing Purpose to Work at Medtronic

May 21, 2026

This spring marked the launch of Inspire!—a new internal tool for our partners at Medtronic, designed to help employees connect their day-to-day work to Medtronic’s mission, products, and the patients they serve.

What makes this launch especially meaningful? Inspire! was developed by Genesys Works interns.

Under the leadership of Katie Dwyer, interns on the Global IT Strategy team led the project from start to finish. Working collaboratively across leadership and other teams, they developed the business case, evaluated potential solutions, and carried the tool through full implementation—developing requirements, testing, and even creating promotional materials.

Inspire! started with a simple but powerful question: How do we help employees — especially in IT — see the patient impact of their work?” shares Katie Dwyer, Senior IT Project Lead at Medtronic, along with the team working on the Inspire! project.

Now, any employee can use the Inspire! tool to better understand how their role contributes to the company’s life-saving mission. In a large and complex organization, it is not always easy to recognize how certain projects or work ultimately support patients but Inspire! makes those pathways more visible, sparking a renewed connection in employees.

The tool not only reinforces purpose and motivation but also provides practical value by helping employees articulate their team impact.

Inspire! is a mission-driven capability that helps employees see how their everyday work connects to Medtronic patients and products,” shares the project team. “This is less about a single tool and more about how we strengthen culture and engagement through innovation.”

This was an exciting project for our Young Professionals, as they were at the forefront of shaping something unique and innovative for the company.

Inspire! shows how Medtronic can combine mission-driven thinking with real-world AI delivery,” says the interns working on this project. “It’s a clear example of how we can scale engagement, innovation, and culture while staying disciplined and aligned to our mission.”

This project is a powerful example of what’s possible when young professionals are given meaningful, real-world opportunities. Genesys Works interns didn’t just support the work—they drove it, delivering a solution that strengthens connection, clarity, and purpose across an entire organization.

Kudos to the talented interns on the team behind the launch of Inspire! — Vivian Her, Nathan Ku, Fromsa Abdulle, Imad Isack, and Shelly Omer!
