Kickstart Your Career

The ConnextMSP Talent Network is collaborating with Wallin Education Partners and Genesys Works to host a spring “Kickstart Your Career” event for a group of 100+ motivated college students and recent graduates on April 14th from 2-5pm. We hope to bring our employer partners and students together for 1:1 resume workshopping, informational interviewing, and tips for using the ConnextMSP platform. This event will be in person, hosted by Ameriprise Financial in their downtown Minneapolis offices and sponsored by the Minneapolis Foundation.

Location: Ameriprise Financial, 901 3rd Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55402

Commitment Timeframe: Volunteers have the option to sign up for up to three one-hour-long volunteer session times.

# of Volunteers Needed: 30

Training: 30-minute training will be provided ahead of the event. Volunteers will be assigned a topic: resume 1:1 review, ConnextMSP profile setup, or mock interviews.

Summer Training: Virtual Tech Conference

300+ Young Professionals spending the summer development their professional and technical skills will spend time with professionals in the technology field and have the opportunity to explore a new skill in the tech field. Example topics (not limited to): What is the cloud? Phishing and Cyber Security, Infrastructure Automation, Building Your Brand in Tech, etc. We are running a morning (9:00AM-11:15 AM) and an afternoon (1:00 PM-3:15 PM) option. Both options will have two sessions with five topics in each session, that the Young Professionals can choose from.

Location: Virtual, on Zoom

Commitment Timeframe: Morning Volunteer Commitment: Session 1) 9:25AM-10:00AM or Session 2) 10:15AM-11:00AM
Afternoon Volunteer Commitment: Session 1) 1:25PM-2:10PM or Session 2) 2:15PM-3:00PM

# of Volunteers Needed: At least 20 volunteers. 5 per per session.

Training: You will be sent a Day of Guide with session breakdown and zoom link.

Summer Training: Workshop Wednesdays

If you are looking at a more personal opportunity to interact with our Young Professionals, this is the event for you! During this three-week series, we bring in three different professionals to share their journey, tips and tricks to be successful in the industry, how internships are a launching pad to success, etc.

Location: Virtual, on Zoom

Commitment Timeframe: Morning Volunteer Commitment: 10:30AM-11:45AM
Afternoon Volunteer Commitment: 1:30PM-2:45PM

# of Volunteers Needed: At least 3. 1 for each date.

Training: You will be sent a Day of Guide with Zoom link, time commitment, and session breakdown.

2023 Draft Day – Special Events Volunteers!

Draft Day is Genesys Works' signature end-of-summer event, where we launch our Young Professionals into year-long internships. Think NFL Draft with a corporate twist! We can't wait to celebrate the accomplishments of our Young Professionals! This event is attended by over 1,000 Genesys Works stakeholders, including more than 50 corporate partner teams, students, families, school champions, community partners, funders, and technology vendor partners. Volunteer with us for a morning of excitement, celebration, and possibility. Roles range from usher to registration, to set up/tear down, to greeters, and more.

Date of event: Thursday, August 10, 2023

Location: Minneapolis Convention Center

Commitment Timeframe: 7:30AM-12:30PM

# of Volunteers Needed: 20

Training: Tuesday, August 8 from 1-1:45PM

College and Career Connections Conferences (CCC Con) Panelists and Presenters

College and Career Connections Conferences (CCC Cons) are key offerings in our college and career advising services for Young Professionals. The conferences are 3-4 hours and offer breakout sessions that cover a variety of topics to prepare Young Professionals for postsecondary and career success. Category of topics include career pathways, postsecondary navigation like financial aid, and self management skills like financial literacy or self-care. Sessions are selected based on students’ needs and interests.

Date of event: Monday, October 30 and Monday, March 11 in the afternoons

Location: TBD (in-person)

Commitment Timeframe: About 1 hour + travel

Training: None, but a meeting or email exchange with the Senior Manager of College and Career Persistence is required

Deadline to sign up: October 9 for October conference and February 16 for March conference

2023 CIO Luncheon

Key to the success of Genesys Works and our interns has been the support of our CIO community and the hundreds of technology executives and professionals who work with, mentor, and support our Young Professionals. Join us as we celebrate Genesys Works Twin Cities' 15-year anniversary and recognize the individuals and companies who are creating meaningful work opportunities for Twin Cities students. Forge new and bolster existing connections among the more than 300 attendees who share a common vision for the future of IT.

We are looking for 10 volunteers to assist with registration, table set up, greet guests, usher guests to the ballroom, etc.


Date of event: Monday, November 6

Location: DoubleTree by Hilton (Bloomington): 7800 Normandale Blvd, Minneapolis, MN 55439

Commitment Timeframe: 8:30am - 1:30pm; flexible depending on volunteer schedule. We need the most support with set up and registration.

Training: Yes, week of October 30th, training will be virtual, and recorded. We will send details post-training as well.

Talent Development Pipeline Opportunities

Talent Development Pipeline (TDP) is our flagship multi-year alumni program for alumni interested in pursuing careers in, but not limited to, business and technology. The four cornerstones of the TDP experience are: developing skills and self-awareness, networking, graduating with a post-secondary degree or credential, and launching into a career. We are seeking volunteers interested in any of the following opportunities:

Hosting a financial literacy workshop
Mock interviews
Resume reviews
Information interviews
Teaching a technical skill
