
Byron V. Garrett is the Chief Executive Officer of Genesys Works, where he leads the national nonprofit in its mission to create pathways to career success for high school students in underserved communities.
Byron brings decades of leadership experience across business, nonprofit, and government sectors. Before joining Genesys Works, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer at United Way Worldwide, overseeing global revenue diversification, expanding government partnerships, and managing the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP). He has also served as President & CEO of the National Job Corps Association, CEO of the National PTA, and Chairman of the National Family Engagement Alliance, in addition to serving as Human Relations Commissioner for the City of Phoenix. Byron has been recognized among Ebony’s Power 150 Most Influential Black Americans and Black Enterprise’s Modern Man 100.
Earlier in his career, Byron was the first Chief of Staff for the Office of Public Affairs at U.S. Customs and Border Protection and played key roles in federal youth initiatives, including ConnectED under the Obama Administration and the Helping America’s Youth Initiative under the Bush Administration. A frequent contributor to national media, Byron is an accomplished author with Scholastic and an internationally renowned speaker. He holds degrees from High Point University and the University of Phoenix.
