Approximately 200 rising seniors to begin career-readiness journey through national program
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 28, 2025
HOUSTON, TEXAS, July 2025 — Genesys Works, a national workforce development nonprofit creating career pathways for high school students in underserved communities, has launched its 23rd annual summer training program. Nearly 200 Houston students, many from the city’s most under-resourced schools, will gain real-world skills to help them thrive in today’s workforce.
The eight-week program will run from June to August 2025. Students train Monday through Friday for four hours a day, choosing between:
- Morning session: 8 a.m. to noon
- Afternoon session: 1 – 5 p.m.
Training takes place at Houston Community College’s Midtown and Westside campuses, focusing on the development of both technical and professional skills. Participants gain hands-on experience with business technology while developing essential soft skills, including communication, teamwork, and professionalism.
“Internships have become increasingly competitive and out of reach for many high school students, especially those from under-resourced schools,” said Daphane Carter, Executive Director of Genesys Houston. “Yet these experiences are essential to building the skills, networks and confidence young people need to achieve upward economic mobility.”
At the same time, Houston-area companies are facing a growing need for skilled and motivated early-career talent. By partnering with Genesys Works, employers not only fill important roles but also invest in developing a future-ready workforce.
To kick off the Summer Training Program, interns participate in a dynamic and engaging team-building event entitled Team-Up! This event encourages participants to collaborate to tackle challenges, solve puzzles, and complete interactive games—strengthening communication, trust, and teamwork along the way. Throughout the training, students participate in immersive sessions that mirror real-world workplace challenges. Sessions include mock interviews with corporate volunteers, professional presentations, time management workshops, and engagement in mock exercises designed to strengthen communication, critical thinking, and confidence. Each session is structured to provide students with practical experience and feedback in a supportive environment, helping them internalize key behaviors that drive success in both their professional and personal lives.

Through dynamic partnerships with over fifty leading companies—including CenterPoint Energy, Texas Children’s Hospital, Kinder Morgan, and Williams—Genesys Works connects motivated, career-ready youth with meaningful internship opportunities that drive workforce equity and community advancement.
This impact would not be possible without the steadfast support of our dedicated school partners, who play a vital role in preparing and championing students as they step into professional environments and pursue brighter futures.
