Earlier this month, technology vendor partners and Genesys Works supporters raised more than $140,000 to create opportunities where Twin Cities youth with the will and work ethic to succeed are empowered achieve a lifetime of economic self-sufficiency.
Genesys Works hosted the 8th annual Hatfield & McCoys fundraiser on Tuesday, October 1st at Surly Brewing. In partnership with the MSP Hatfield & McCoy group, more than 130 supporters – our highest attendance at this event in its eight years – showed up ready to do #business4good. Through silent and live auction, additional donations, and a bid accelerator generously matched by a board member, we eclipsed last year’s total by more than $25k!
This event was made possible thanks to the leadership of Eric Gartland, Nate Haines, Tyler Johnson, Darrell Kesti, David Kretsch, Kelly McShane, Craig Pratt, Craig Schmidtke, Dan Stefanini, Kelly Sebion, and Becky Wemer.
The funds raised will support the comprehensive programming that creates multiple pathways to success in business and STEM for low-income and first-generation college youth. We do this through skills training, impactful paid work experience, and ongoing college and career access and success support. Through increased engagement with our alumni via our College and Career Success team – the Talent Development Pipeline, celebration events and Career Fairs, college internships, and more – our support extends far beyond high school.
This year at Hatfield & McCoys, we were especially excited to launch the Technology Partner Advisory Council (TPAC), a council that will consist of 10-15 individuals from the technology vendor community who are committed to the mission and values of Genesys Works. These individuals will be integral in ensuring that we incorporate the voice of the customer into our decision-making. Genesys Works Twin Cities is a nonprofit social enterprise providing opportunities for driven, low-income high school students through meaningful work experiences. Our program consists of eight weeks of technical and professional skills training, a paid year-long corporate internship, college and career coaching, and alumni support to and through college. Our goal is to move more students out of poverty and into professional careers, creating a more productive and diverse workforce in the process.
