Privacy Policy

INTRODUCTION

Genesys Works (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to respecting the personal privacy of our users. To better protect your privacy and comply with our legal obligations, we are providing information explaining our information practices.

This privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) describes our practices with respect to personal information we collect from or about you when you use our website at genesysworks.org (the “Website”). This Privacy Policy does not apply to information we process on behalf of our other offerings, such as the internship placement, training, and consulting services we offer our institutional partners. Our use of information collected in providing business services is governed by separate agreements that cover such services.

Your use of the Website means that you accept and agree to this Privacy Policy, our [Terms of Use], and all additional terms incorporated by reference herein. You may have additional rights under other foreign or domestic laws that may apply to you, including as set forth in additional privacy notices we may publish.

CHANGES TO PRIVACY POLICY

We will use information only in accordance with the Privacy Policy in effect when the information was collected. However, we reserve the right to amend this Privacy Policy from time to time, in our sole discretion, for any reason and without notice, by updating this Privacy Policy. If we make material changes to our Privacy Policy (including collecting and/or using personal information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected), we will post those changes on the Website or send you an email or other communication before the changes take effect.

The notice will designate a reasonable period of time after which the new terms will take effect. We will try to provide at least 30 day’s notice prior to the effective changes. If you disagree with our changes, then you must stop using our Website within the designated notice period, or once the changes become effective. Your continued use of our Website following the notice period means that you accept such revisions, changes, and/or amendments.

Please check this page frequently and review any changes to this Privacy Policy carefully so you are aware of any changes, as they are binding on you. You agree that we shall not be liable to you for any damages that might result from any changes to the Privacy Policy to the fullest extent permitted by law.

WHAT ARE COOKIES?

A cookie is a very small text document, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier. When you visit a website, that site’s computer asks your computer for permission to store this file in a part of your hard drive specifically designated for cookies. Each website can send its own cookie to your browser if your browser’s preferences allow it, but (to protect your privacy) your browser only permits a website to access the cookies it has already sent to you, not the cookies sent to you by other sites. Some Third-Party Services (as defined below) and other online service providers use cookies that originate from their sites. We have no access or control over those cookies.

If you prefer not to receive cookies through the Website, you can set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies and refuse the cookie when your browser alerts you to its presence. You can also refuse all cookies by turning them off in your browser. If you optout of certain cookies, you may be unable to access certain parts or features of the Website. You may wish to visit www.allaboutcookies.org, which contains comprehensive information about types of cookies, how they are used, and how you manage your cookie preferences.

HOW DO WE USE THE PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT?

We may use your personal information for one or more of the following business purposes:

  • To administer, improve, and expand the Website and our business activities and to notify you about changes to our Website and special offers we think you will find valuable;
  • To communicate with you, including responding to requests for information submitted by you through the Website, to notify you of publications that may be of interest to you, or to provide customer service;
  • To keep a record of your relationship with us;
  • For ongoing operations, such as organizational administration, accounting, fundraising, and reporting;
  • To audit the quality and effectiveness of our Website and compliance, including over time;
  • To protect our Website from malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity; and
  • To generally comply with U.S., state, local, and non-U.S. laws, rules, and regulations.

HOW DO WE USE THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT FOR MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS?

Additionally, we may use your personal information to keep you informed of our Website and publications if you have provided your consent for us to do so, or where we have an existing relationship with you and we wish to contact you about such services or publications (“Marketing Communications”).

There are several ways in which you can tell us whether or not you want to receive Marketing Communications from us.

  • Promotional Emails: Click the “opt-out” or “unsubscribe” link provided in all our marketing emails or email us with your opt-out request at any time at info@genesysworks.org.
  • Text Messages: To the extent that you have signed up to receive text messages from us through Signal Vine, a Third-Party Service, you may opt out of receiving them by replying to any message we send you with the word “STOP”. Please review our [Terms of Use][1] for important information concerning our use of text messaging.

HOW DO WE USE THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT FROM INTERNET PROTOCOL ADDRESSES

We may also collect Internet Protocol (“IP”) addresses or click-stream data for purposes including:

  • To perform system administration;
  • To improve the Website; and
  • To report aggregate information internally or to our affiliates, institutional partners, or our Third-Party Service providers.

An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you access the Internet. Our computers identify your computer by its IP address. When you request pages from the Website, our computers log your IP address.

Click-stream data is information collected by our computers when you request pages from the Website. Click-stream data may include such information as the page served, the time, the source of the request, the type of browser making the request, the preceding page view, and other such non-personal information. When analyzed, this data helps us determine, among other things, how visitors arrive at the Website, what type of content is most popular, and what type of visitors in the aggregate are interested in particular kinds of content.

HOW DO WE USE INFORMATION WE COLLECT FROM COOKIES?

As you use our Website, the site uses its cookies to differentiate you from other users. In some cases, we also use cookies to prevent requiring you to log in more than is necessary for security. Cookies, in conjunction with our web server’s log files, allow us to calculate the aggregate number of people visiting our Website and which parts of the site are most popular. This helps us gather feedback in order to constantly improve our Website and better serve our customers. Cookies do not allow us to gather any personal information about you, and we do not generally store any personal information that you provided to us in your cookies.

SHARING INFORMATION WITH THIRD PARTIES

Unless described otherwise under this Privacy Policy, we do not sell or rent any of the personal information we collect about you to third parties, unless such personal information has been aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified so that it neither identifies a person nor otherwise falls within the definition of personal information.

We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about you to third parties, except as expressly set forth herein or as permitted or required by law or regulation and to affiliates and service providers, including vendors providing hosting, purchasing, payment processing, software services, event management, database management, and development services related to the operation of the Website, or email marketing services related to events we are hosting, our publications, Marketing Communications, or other communications we may send to you.

However, the use of your personal information by such parties is controlled by those parties and thus, not subject to our control.

ADDITIONAL DISCLOSURES

We may disclose your personal information if required to do so by law, court order, or subpoena or if we believe that such action is necessary to (i) conform to the law or comply with legal process served on us or affiliated parties; (ii) protect and defend our rights and property, our Website, the users of our Website, and/or our affiliated parties; (iii) act under circumstances to protect the safety of users of our Website, us, or third parties; or (iv) enforce or apply our other agreements.

HOW DO WE SECURELY TRANSMIT AND STORE INFORMATION?

Email is not recognized as a secure medium of communication. For this reason, we request that you do not send private information to us by email. Some of the information you may enter on our Website may be transmitted securely via Secure Sockets Layer SSL, 128 bit encryption services. Pages utilizing this technology will have URLs that start with HTTPS, instead of HTTP. We encrypt certain sensitive information in the transmission process using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. Please contact info@genesysworks.org if you have any questions or concerns.

We will store your personal information in an identifiable manner, unless (i) otherwise required by applicable law, or (ii) you request deletion of your personal information pursuant to this Privacy Policy. At such point that we cease storing your personal information in an identifiable manner, except to the extent that we may be prohibited from retaining any such information even in unidentifiable form, we will convert all of your personal information into anonymized, aggregated, or de-identified form. For the avoidance of doubt, personal information that has been converted into anonymized, aggregated, or de-identified form shall no longer constitute personal information.

HOW CAN YOU ACCESS AND CORRECT YOUR INFORMATION?
