Our students made an app!
As our corporate partners – and employers across the board – increasingly seek Young Professionals with project management skills, GWBA’s week dedicated solely to this skillset gave students hands-on experience with the methodology used across today’s tech, biotech, healthcare, and engineering industries.
Throughout the week in July, students worked in cross-functional teams to build an app from the ground up. Through this project, they learned to:
• Build an Agile Team Charter and establish a “Definition of Done”
• Create and manage a Kanban board
• Write and prioritize User Stories
• Lead daily Scrum meetings and identify project blockers
• Collaborate across roles and skill sets
• Pivot when project requirements changed in real time
Midway through the week, teams were challenged with a major change in project guidelines, putting their adaptability, communication, and problem-solving skills to the test. By the end of the week, teams successfully delivered working applications and presentations while developing a “team-first” mindset that will carry them into their workplaces
Young Professionals learned that project management isn’t just about completing tasks but knowing how to collaborate and keep moving forward throughout the experience.
Thanks to the support of Golden Gate University and Dr. Sia Zadeh, students were able to learn key workplace skills that will serve them well in the upcoming year and beyond.
