Finding college success, now James pays it forward as a college counselor

When I was a student at Spring Woods High School, I joined Genesys Works because I had a dream of working a professional job in a “big” building in downtown Houston.

Finding True Potential with Genesys Works

A single opportunity changed the trajectory of my life. I grew up in a single-parent household in Bloomington, Minnesota, where my mother worked three jobs to provide a roof over our heads and food in our bellies.

Facing the Future with Confidence

Francisco was seven years old when his family left Mexico and set out for the U.S. Growing up in Oakland, the eldest of two, he found himself navigating a new country, new language, and most importantly, a new education system. In high school, Francisco envisioned a future career in law and technology.

Persistence Pays Off

Many families who leave Central America are trying to get their children a better education and a brighter future. Lack of educational opportunities was a factor in Kateryn’s family move from Guatemala when she was only eight years old.
