At Genesys Works, we’re not just creating opportunities—we’re building strong foundations for young people from underserved communities. By preparing them for post-secondary education and career success, we empower them to lead choice-filled lives.
Waleed’s story is a testament to this mission. As a member of Cohort 4, Class of 2017, Waleed began his journey as a Quality Assurance intern at Salesforce. Reflecting on his early experience, he shared:
“I knew it was hard to get internships out of college, so I thought having one in high school would help me stand out.”
Waleed’s determination paid off. After graduating from San Francisco State University, the first graduate in his family, with a degree in Computer Science, he continued to leverage the Genesys Works Alumni Network for guidance and opportunities.
“When I struggled with my courses, I used the network for advice on my degree choice. I even secured another internship through GWBA with PG&E, where I worked as a Contract Administrator for a year,” Waleed explained.
Today, Waleed is thriving as a Business Analyst at Abbott. He credits his early exposure to professional environments for his success:
“I didn’t know about work culture. I had to learn how to operate in a professional environment and handle situations in a professional way.”
Waleed’s story exemplifies the lasting impact of Genesys Works. Through our network, alumni like him stay connected, tapping into resources and relationships that help them continue to grow in their careers.
Genesys Works Bay Area will forever be a resource to our alumni!
