Student Spotlight: Nayeli Cortez-Ramos

November 26, 2024

For most teenagers, stepping away from the crowd to try something different isn’t easy. But when Nayeli learned about an opportunity with Genesys Works, she didn’t hesitate.

The idea first came from her school counselor who told Nayeli about a program that would place her in a real corporate job. Reflecting on that initial conversation, Nayeli shared, “Wow! I get to work at a corporate job!” While thrilled, she admitted to feeling both nervous and excited.

Being the only student from her school to apply meant she arrived at the first day of Summer Training without knowing anyone. But it didn’t take long for her to find common ground. “It was fun to get to know other students. Everyone was there to challenge themselves and grow their skills. We all had similar goals,” she said.

Fast forward to today, and Nayeli is thriving as a Social Impact Intern at Okta. In this role, she helps employees support meaningful causes by providing data analysis that guides the department’s engagement strategies. Balancing school, work, family life, and friendships isn’t easy—especially as a high school senior deep in the college application process. Nayeli is also a QuestBridge Scholar, meaning she could receive a full scholarship to one of QuestBridge’s partner colleges. If matched, she’ll be the first in her family to attend college, setting an inspiring example for her younger sibling.

Nayeli’s story is a powerful reminder that seizing opportunities can open doors to a bright future. We can’t wait to see all that she accomplishes next!
