Nick Vargas Irineo, a driven senior at AIMS College Prep High School, is already making strides in the professional world as an IT Support Intern at the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, under the mentorship of Morris Moore. His path to this role began with a recommendation from friends who had thrived in the Genesys Works program. “I joined Genesys Works because I was informed about the program from many friends that were part of Genesys Works,” Nick explains. “I run a side hustle as a barber, and while cutting friends’ hair, they told me about the program and what a great opportunity it is for the summer. Typically, I play sports over the summer, but knowing this included an option to take college classes, I knew I wanted to join.”Â
Â
Nick’s aspirations extend beyond technology. With a keen interest in corporate and immigration law, he is working hard to earn a place at USC, aiming to become the first in his family to attend college and eventually pursue a career as a top lawyer.Â
Nick’s professional journey recently took him to the HMG Conference, a pivotal networking event where he had the opportunity to connect with industry leaders and learn about their insights on AI and corporate collaboration. Reflecting on the experience, Nick shared, “My experience at the HMG conference was fantastic. It was a great opportunity to network with people on different career levels. Everyone was so kind and open to explaining their beliefs in AI and sharing their day-to-day experiences. It helped me learn more about how companies work and connect with each other.”Â
At the conference, Nick met Herman Brown, the Chief Information Officer for the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, whose thoughts on AI deeply resonated with Nick. Their conversation made a strong impression on Herman, which led to Nick’s internship with the District Attorney’s Office. Now, as an IT Support Intern, Nick is gaining hands-on experience with trial AV support, inventory management, workstation set-up, storage management, and e-waste management of decommissioned systems—learning about the crucial role technology plays in the legal field.Â
Nick’s journey is a powerful example of how the Genesys Works program helps bridge the gap between high school students and professional experiences, especially for those with ambitious goals in fields like law and technology. With his dedication and drive, Nick is well on his way to leaving a lasting impact.Â
