The Genesys Works College and Career Success Team kicked off this fall’s recruiting season by hosting the 2nd annual Career Fair. Representatives from nine of our corporate partners joined us to connect with 43 current GW college students and recent graduates for internship and full-time positions in technology and business. The space provided representatives and GW alumni with an opportunity to have meaningful conversations and build professional and personal connections. A big thank you to 3M, Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc., Amplifon, Andersen Corporation, Best Buy, Boom Lab, Ecolab, Land O’Lakes, Inc., & Target for making this an impactful event!
Genesys Works alumni took full advantage of preparing and organizing their materials for the event. Prior to the fair, the College and Career Success Team hosted two career fair prep sessions where alumni could review and refine their resumes, practice their elevator pitches, and learn about career fair etiquette. During the fair, alumni gathered in the designated prep area to carefully research each company and intentionally plan how to network at the fair. Alumni also used the dedicated space to write notes after meeting with representatives and plan for follow-up conversations.
Faiza Mohamoud, a Genesys Works Class of 2018 Young Professional, shared why this event was so impactful: “It was great to get one on one time with recruiters and get the run down of what they’re looking for in the future. As a college sophomore it’s hard to get a recruiter’s attention and overall network, so meeting with them gave me a lot of insight to what they’re looking for and determination that I can enter and work in these spaces if I just work hard enough and also with the help of GW!”
And it seems like these companies liked what they saw. A representative from Andersen Corporation shared, “We loved the Genesys Works Career Fair! There was a great mix of talented students interested in both internship opportunities, as well as full-time opportunities. The timing of the career fair was helpful as well so we could have an opportunity to speak directly with the Genesys Works students prior to school starting back up.”
After the fair, several alumni stayed to meet with representatives from 3M and Best Buy who conducted on-site interviews with alumni that they were particularly impressed with. A representative from Best Buy shared, “GW Students are amazingly humble and eager to learn. I cannot wait to work for one of these students in the future.”
