Bay Area Community Gathers to Celebrate Class of 2019 Genesys Works Young Professionals
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 18, 2018 — Nearly 130 rising high school seniors from San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose, have begun their internships at local Bay Area companies. These Genesys Works program participants capped their eight-week skills training with the Breaking Through Ceremony, a milestone event for young professionals continuing their transformational journey with a year-long, paid corporate internship.
Speakers at the event included Marcus, who delivered one of the student keynote addresses. “Now that I’ve had an opportunity to participate in Genesys Works, I have learned to be more confident in myself and my ideas,” said Marcus, Class of 2019 Genesys Works Young Professional. “This has been an opportunity to challenge myself and gain my identity in the process. I have transformed from a follower to a leader.” As part of his Genesys Works internship, Marcus is currently working with the Customer Support team at ServiceNow.
Katty Coulson, Director IT, Regional IT Leader for Americas and Cisco on Cisco Global Leader at Cisco Systems, addressed the audience on behalf of our corporate and community partners.
This is the fifth class of trained interns from the Bay Area program. Since 2013, Genesys Works has trained hundreds of students from underserved areas and this is the largest cohort of students to date.

Genesys Works provides pathways to career success for high school students in underserved communities through skills training, meaningful work experiences, and impactful relationships. Our program consists of 8 weeks of technical and professional skills training, a paid year-long corporate internship, college and career coaching, and alumni support to and through college.
