Press Release

HOUSTON, TX (November 11, 2020) – Genesys Works, a national youth workforce development program for promising high school students and a diverse talent pipeline for top U.S. employers, recently received a $50,000 grant from The Upwork Foundation Initiative, in partnership with The Tides Foundation. The Upwork Foundation supports initiatives that provide inclusive learning and economic opportunities that improve the lives of those who are often marginalized or underrepresented in the workforce. The funding will help Genesys Works further its mission of connecting talented high school students (ages 17 to 18) to the tools and opportunities that help them earn a career and become economically self-sufficient – support that has become even more critical due to the pandemic.

“Genesys Works plays a significant role in launching the careers of ambitious high school students from under-resourced communities who deserve a chance to realize their full potential,” said David Williams, CEO of Genesys Works. “With support from The Upwork Foundation, more hardworking students will be able to access the learning and earning opportunities that create pathways to a better future. We are proud to be one of five organizations Upwork selected from their summer grant opportunity to support this year.”

In October, Genesys Works launched #EmployChange, a social campaign that urges Corporate America to offer more equal access to the tools and opportunities that give all young adults a chance at creating equitable futures, which reinforces Genesys Works’ commitment to addressing economic poverty and inequality.

“The Upwork Foundation is honored to support Genesys Works’ mission to ensure more hardworking and dedicated students from under-resourced communities gain access to the transformational skills, support system, education, and career opportunities that help them live better lives,” said Kylie James of The Upwork Foundation. “The positive ripple effect Genesys Works’ robust program has on the community long after graduates leave the program is a testament to its commitment to closing the opportunity divide.”

Other recipients of grants from The Upwork Foundation include KeplerRe:work trainingi.c.stars, and Mann Deshi Foundation.
