This week, the Trump administration announced its decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. I’m writing today to let you know that Genesys Works denounces this decision and has joined hundreds of other U.S. companies and organizations in signing the Open Letter to the President from Leaders of American Industry. Together, we stand with the 800,000 young Dreamers who are proud to call America their home.

Since 2012, DACA has allowed minors the opportunity to stay in this country – the only country many Dreamers have known– and embark on a path to complete their education and contribute meaningfully to our society. Many of Genesys Works’ alumni and current students are benefiting from DACA and are now on the trajectory to new and better-paying jobs that contribute to the overall health of this nation’s economy. Having personally met a number of these Dreamers, and knowing already their great work ethic and determination to succeed, I am saddened by what their future may now hold.

The Attorney General, in his prepared remarks, said that it is the duty of Congress to create permanent legislation, as this is a country of laws. We couldn’t agree more with that statement. We strongly encourage and support Congressional action that provides these young people a permanent solution so they may legally study and work in the United States and contribute to our society. We hope our elected leaders take their responsibility seriously and come together in a bipartisan manner to do what is right for these young people, our economy, and our nation.

I shared my initial thoughts on the value of the DACA program last December – I invite you to read more at 74 Million.
